Sidewalk Sale in the Richmond this Saturday!

I’m super psyched to be partaking in Clement Street’s first annual Sidewalk Sale in celebration of small business week! I’ll be over in the Foggy Notion region this Saturday with lots of vintage dresses, shoes, accessories, potted succulent arrangements and more <3 There is a great line-up of local vendors and even homemade bread samples! I’m personally excited to get to meet the fabled ‘pole gardener’ of the Richmond and get some hot tips for urban beautification. Cesar Chavez here I come…!

Time for a little Succu-love!

I’ve been cataloguing my succulent arrangements for a little while and the best part is getting to show off these one of a kind wonders! I made a few pieces this week I’m particularly in love with, this vintage green NAPCO planter features a spiky succulent, moss, rocks, and some adorable ivy too! The NAPCO Company, or National Potteries Corporation, started producing ceramics and glassware in 1938 in Bedford, Ohio and became known for its consistently well designed pieces, especially of the ‘lady head’ variety. Today NAPCO pieces are still collectable and look great paired with mid century design and furnishings.

Here’s a few more close ups of this week’s lovelies, a vintage turquoise flared Bauer pot with a large succulent, and a pink mid-century teardrop shaped planter with a complimentary arrangement and glass/ moss accents.

This week my Pheasant Feather Bow Tie was featured in a gorgeous wedding inspiration piece on Ruffled.com inspired by the romantic, rustic Colorado winter! It was a pleasure working with event stylist Jill Carter of Common Couture and I’m thrilled to have gotten to be a part of this project. The photos look amazing and capture the details from the bouquet’s plum colored blossoms to the smallest sugar feather atop the cake.

If you’re getting hitched, I strongly suggest checking out Ruffled and prepare to fall into a black hole of amazing wedding themes and DIY projects for any bride and budget. There’s even a ‘Recycle your Wedding’ section where you can snag treasures from past brides at a steal. I lost myself in the Vintage Finds section for a bit and I’m already married! <3

Spring has arrived! To celebrate the longer, warmer days and lots of new seedlings popping up in my garden, I’ve been posting lots of spring-themed dresses and tops to the store! Here’s a few highlights of this week:

I’ve been especially inspired lately by walks through Bernal Heights, there are so many beautiful stairways on the hill and secret gardens to discover! Blooming jasmine and wisteria fill the air and it’s hard not to encounter a few butterflies while exploring the neighborhood.

This weekend March 23rd and 24th The Sunshine Factory Pop-up Shop returns with a new crop of hand selected vintage treasures, 60′s/70′s clothing and shoes, leather accessories, vintage housewares, plants, and much much more!

I’m excited to open the shop up again and have been stocking the shelves with consigned local jewelry and art by Little Otto Shop, artisan soaps by Etta & Billie (made just down the street), gorgeous floral crowns by Floral Islands, and special pieces by Toronto-based succulent-prism making duo Take to the Sea!

I’m excited to announce that my succulent arrangements are now available at Foggy Notion in the Inner Richmond at 275 6th Ave! Just off of bustling Clement street, Foggy Notion is a tiny oasis of scents, housewares, jewelry, and unique leather goods that attracts locals with its laid back atmosphere and can’t-live-without wonders. I visited the store this past weekend and got a few shots to share <3

Lot of new vintage ceramic and glass delights filled with succulents.. ranging from the 1940′s to 70′s

Magnificent air plant sculptures by Leaf and Light accompanied by rustic lamps by Anzfer Farms give the shop an amazing glow after the sun goes down

This weekend I’m excited to be vending at the Valentine’s Boutique Stroll happening at three amazing stores in the Inner Richmond! I’ll be in the atrium at Foggy Notion with my new jewelry and tons of vintage succulent arrangements, accompanied by Heritage Mercantile‘s hand picked bohemian vintage! Hi Everyone!

To celebrate this winter season and upcoming New Year I wanted to share a bit about my favorite part of my business, making adorable succulent arrangements with vintage planters and retro glassware!

Succulents are such a beautiful part of the California landscape and everywhere you turn in the city lies a garden overgrown with these hearty little wonders. They make great housepets, requiring only occasional watering and a sunny spot. Terrariums have become quite popular lately, but if you’re not that into suspending glass futuristic balls from the ceiling, retro planters and tableware make a great alternative!

While stocking inventory for next year’s upcoming Sunshine Factory Pop-up Shop during this dismal rainy SF winter, I found myself stumbling across cute vintage objects left and right, rendered useless by the changing times. Those lonely 70′s ceramic drip mugs, egg cups, and gravy boats had such potential but no purpose. Separated from their past sets or just in low demand, these gems lay useless in basements and dusty thrift store shelves. I knew I could make them beautiful again and started pairing them with gorgeous local succulents, colored stones, and moss- each one unique in color and style. Now I sell my arrangements locally at fairs and events throughout the city. I love seeing people get excited about the vintage twist on colorful succulents!

Succulents make a great addition to your workspace or home and I offer free
plant-counseling and care instructions to make their maintenance less mystical.

One of my favorite up-cycled planters is a thrifted sundae dish or milkshake cup, the older and heavier the better. Making a Succulent Sundae is easy with the right supplies and a few good records.
Let’s get started..!

Supplies:
-Glass sundae cup
-Cactus soil
-Perlite
-Small natural or colored rocks
-2″ Succulent
-Reindeer Moss (if desired)
-Small spoon or scooper

First, select a 2 inch succulent from your local nursery. If you like the look of a Succulent Sundae with colorful reindeer moss, you may want to chose an Aeonium or taller variety of succulent and keep your soil level lower so your moss will sit in the lip nicely. Sempervivums grow closer to the ground and don’t leave much room for moss, instead a contrasting color of rock will make them really stand out.

Your spoon or scooper will come in handy for your dirt and rocks, and a paintbrush to dust off the dirt from the leaves when you’re finished helps as well.
Because there are no holes in the bottom of our sundae cups, we must make sure our soil can drain by putting a layer of rocks at the bottom.

Next, mix cactus soil with a bit of perlite for extra good drainage. I’ve found that most cactus soil isn’t porous enough and I like to mix it in to keep the roots from becoming too moist in my damp San Francisco house.
Pour a small layer of dirt and position your succulent in the cup, then with your small scooper, fill up to the base of the succulent with soil mixture.

Next pat your soil down a bit and situate your succulent. Use a spoon or small scooper to shovel your rocks along the top and position your reindeer moss in a good spot. Dust the dirt off your leaves, give your succulent a spoonful of water and you’re all set!

It’s holiday pop-up shop time!

I’m psyched to be a part of this Pre-Christmas Mini Fair happening at Foggy Notion in the Richmond this weekend December 22nd and 23rd. Foggy Notion is the perfect place for last minute Christmas shopping with its array of tiny wonders from Pendleton pouches to delicious man-products!

On Saturday I’ll be joined by Zo Guthrie of Fox & Moon Tea, who will be doing tea tasting and selling her tea blends and tea ware. On Sunday, I’ll be accompanied by Keith Aderholdt of Leaf and Light, selling his wooden air plant sculptures.

I’ll be there both days from 11am to 5pm selling all kinds of goodies from 60′s-70′s vintage clothing, shoes and housewares to succulent arrangements and handmade jewelry! Baked goods and hot cider will be provided so be sure to come by for those last minute gifts for your special someone!
